As a youngster, I began taking black & white pictures with a Brownie box camera rescued from someone’s curbside trash. From the start I tried creative effects, taking my camera everywhere, finding pictures fascinating. Although crowded out by life’s activities, photography was never far from my interests; and in the nineties I joined a local camera club, where I discovered new friends and a real passion for making pictures. Since then I’ve been honored to speak on topics in photography, conduct photography courses, have images appear in a few publications and been recognized in both national and local venues.
Now photography provides relaxing perceptual experiences and pathways to exploring the outdoors, where, as Stephen Covey eloquently said, “nature bequeaths its own blessing on those who immerse themselves in it.” Although the technical challenges are engaging, rendering images from new perspectives is very fulfilling And equipped with today’s digital medium, awareness and imagination are the only boundaries to creating photographs that spark emotions and inspire ideas beyond the elements in the picture space.
I remain grateful to those who shared photographic techniques and suggestions, trusting you know who you are; and wish to honor the memories of my Dad, who bequeathed to me his artistic talent; and Richard Jones who shared many early photography experiences, we will remain “friends forever.”
